Special Weather Bulletin:
Tornado Hits Bayamon Puerto Rico!
By Luis "The Beast" Cadiz
While we here in Puerto Rico, the Shining Star of the
Caribbean, are used to
heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and an
occasional hurricane, the last hurricane
to hit was Georges and it was around ten years ago, a
tornado swept through Puerto Rico. But this tornado is
something else; it developed in Tijuana and whirled into the
island last night by way of Isla Verde, the Luis Muñoz Marin
International Airport to be exact. It blew over the Puerto
Rican public in the municipality of Bayamon, not with brutal
power but with humility and charisma.
I had a chance to corner the "Tijuana Tornado", Antonio
Margarito, for some Q&A and here's what he had to say:
Luis "The Beast" Cadiz: With your victory over Miguel Cotto,
you gave the welterweight division an injection of
adrenaline. What does Antonio Margarito
do now to keep the division dynamic?
Antonio Margarito: Well, I keep on doing what I have been
doing all along, fighting the best fighters out there and
never back down from a fight. My victory over Miguel Cotto
proved to all that I am the best welterweight. My future
fights will continue to prove that I am the best, no doubt
about it.
L.C.: There were negotiations with Paul Williams, the W.B.O.
welterweight champ, what has developed there?
A.M.: No, no? there have been many rumors but nothing
concrete has come about
that. At this moment, there is
much speculation about that fight but not much
else.
L.C.: Well then, what does a fighter like Margarito do to
keep the fire lit in the already burning welterweight
division?
A.M.: There have been talks about me fighting Clottey? that
will be up to Top Rank to decide. But look what has
happened, Oscar has turned away and doesn't20want to fight
me, Mayweather retired and wants no part of me, so I will
fight whomever Top Rank puts into the ring me. Be it a
unification bout with any of the reigning champions or a
rematch with Cotto, I will be there to defend my title and
continue to prove that I am the best out there.
The Tijuana Tornado had left its path of destruction this
past July 26th, when it devastated island son Miguel "El
Angel" Cotto, destroyed an unblemished record and ripped the
WBA welterweight title from his grasp. Today, no path of
destruction was left behind, only a hard earned owned road
of respect for the "Tijuana Tornado" Antonio Margarito.
I would like to thank Sergio Diaz for accommodating me and
making this interview happen, even under the intense
conditions and frenzy generated by Antonio Margarito’s visit
to Puerto Rico.
Forgive the pun…?We were all just blown away.
