Sulaiman Clears Up His "Fraud" Statement
WBC President's Views On De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao Were Spot On

By William Trillo

A few days ago we posted a statement from El Presidente Jose Sulaiman where he took a very firm stand on the proposed Oscar vs. Manny fight that has now been taken off the table. Only hours before the fight was officially scrapped Don Jose contacted Pound4Pound to further explain his views.

Although we know the fight is now history I feel it's important to post Sulaiman's letter in it's entirety, as it is not only dead on correct, but it gives you an idea of how much the sport of boxing means to him.

One last note before you read the letter. From time to time we have posted our correspondence with Sulaiman and on occasion one of my esteemed peers would contact me voicing their opinion on the credibility of The WBC President. To that I have answered every time, Mr. Sulaiman has always been a faithful friend to Pound4Pound. Who in boxing hasn't had finger of doubt pointed at them at one time or another? Sulaiman has been good to us and for that we thank him.

Now the letter:

 Dear Mr. Trillo:
My position is that as it doesn't seem that the fight will be for a WBC title and , therefore, I have little to say.  However, as Manny  is the  WBC lightweight champion , we recommend to him that he should understand that Oscar DE LA Hoya has a much difference weight, height, and reach and that the last time that he made his division (lightweight) was 13 years ago and surely would go into the ring as a middle weight, while he(Manny) would not be naturally much over the light weight.    Oscar, very doubtfully,  could also have to reduce a considerable number of pounds ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

So the fight could be a stuffed lightweight against a middleweight and that is not safe, and the WBC is strongly for safety.  Exceptions to rules cause many times most of the injuries and accidents.

Oscar De La Hoya has been one of the most money producing fighters ever and a Latin hero, who wants to retire with a victory ; Pacquiao is called today the best active fighter pound per pound .  Both should have an enormous pride, dignity and honor for what they have been in history, and both should be very careful of not tarnishing their names in history, nor put into doubt their prestige , as well as consider that boxing that has given them everything ,that they have should also be treated with respect.  I do not favor this match as it is being promoted exclusively for money and nothing else.

Best regards-   J.S.
