Schaefer Confirms Oscar
vs. Manny Reports "The Fight Is Off"
By William Trillo
Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer has
confirmed for Pound4Pound that the negotiations are over and
the proposed Superfight between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny
Pacquiao have concluded. When asked to confirm reports
Schaefer stated;
Correct that
fight is off and we will move to another opponent. Oscar
will fight on December 6th from the MGM Grand. He
is arriving in Los Angeles this weekend. I will be with him
for 10 days and we will discuss to which one of the several
other potential candidates we will move on to.
Top Rank upper brass
told Pound4Pound that the 70-30 split offered to Pacquiao
was unacceptable as Manny is a Mega Superstar himself and
the split was not realistic. Top Rank also stated that they
will move on from here and that Manny will fight in November
but a time or place is not set, contrary to reports that
Pacman will face Humberto Soto in Las Vegas.
As to the potential
opponents for De La Hoya, one of those should be
Welterweight Champ Antonio Margarito who Top Rank confirmed
has been offered as another option for Oscar.
Of course the public
outcry to see Oscar take on Margarito who just dismantled
former Champ Miguel Cotto is huge, but the spin that Oscar
will not fight a Mexican in his last fight is still fresh in
the minds of Top Rank.
Pound4Pound reached out
to Team Pacquiao for a statement but have not had any
response.
Lastly, and don't say I
didn't mention this, don't be surprised if Floyd Mayweather
Jr. isn't looking at all this and is considering throwing
his sombrero back into the Golden mix...don't be surprised
at all!
