Top Ranks Arum Addresses Klitschko Retirement -
Over 30 Min Of Teleconference
Audio

Bob Arum made no bones about it throughout the promotion leading up to the now canceled WBC heavyweight Championship of the World. The Heavyweight were a division in need of help, the alphabet soup Champions were a paper champs at best. By outbidding everyone in a surprise to all, Arums goal was to clean up the mess. But a twist of fate left Klitschko's knee blown out and with it his career came to a sudden halt. Along with that Arum lost out on trying to clean up a division that has went from bad to very(WBC) very(WBA) very(WBO) very(IBF) bad.

This Wednesday, Arum called an impromptu press conference to try to shed some light and maybe a glimmer of hope on the future of boxing in the Heavyweight division!

Tom Loeffler Speaks About Klitschko And The Injury
- FREE AUDIO

This Saturday was one of the oddest and most unexpected days to come around in Boxing2005's short tenure. Along the way, it also might have been one of the most disappointing and exhilarating at the same time. Having covered some local fights on Friday I stayed up way too late and woke up even later. As I sat in front of my computer with my morning 2 liter of coffee I was brought out of my comatose state by the melodic chant of, "YOU'VE GOT MAIL!" Like Pavlov's dog I began salivating, not having any clue what piece of junk spam I might be viewing. Much to my surprise it was an email from one of our loyal readers, it read:

ESPN is reporting Vitali injured his knee and fight is in jeopardy. Better call Lee Samuels at Top Rank. I like your site and wouldn't want to see you scooped.
I quickly logged onto every other site to see if this could be true and if it had already been picked up, nobody had it. My next thought was maybe someone was testing me to see if I would just post any garbage that was sent to my inbox, if that was the case, they had us mistaken for someone else. I emailed the source back and hoped to hear back with some positive info. Maybe 3 minutes had passed and I got on the horn with Tom Loeffler from K2.

"Tom, what's up? Is Vitali hurt?" Much to my dismay K2's founder answered in the affirmative. As I spoke with Tom, he told me of the injury but said they fight was still on. Whew! Okay, time to get into action, contact Top Rank and get the coveted double confirmation of the breaking news. Dang no answer! Alright, leave a message, send an email and hope you hear from them ASAP. Next, call Bret, he needs to know what's going down.

"Dude Vitali is hurt!" Still in the last stages of REM sleep Newton snaps out of it and inquires if the fight is off. I told him it didn't appear so but have not heard from Top Rank yet. At that very moment my cell phone rings, "It's Top Rank dude, I GOTTA GO!" Within seconds the sources that be confirm the injury but say in the same breath that the fight is still on. Whew, again! Okay, send Bret the news and get him to post it ASAP now. Perfect. Now check the other sites, uh oh! My good buddy has it now, but they are saying the fight is in jeopardy. Whatever, we are going with the reports we got. Well, that was all pretty exciting, glad that's over and I am even gladder I'm still going to Vegas next weekend. After a little breakfast I figure I better check and see if anything else has hit the WWW. Hey now! That article posted by the other site is no longer there, but in it's place is the same info we posted, Vitali hurt but fight is on. Well what did I really expect them to do....I guess?

I figure it's a good idea to start putting out some feelers so I call our new reporter Charles Presnell to see if he can contact Hasim Rahman for us. Charles is on his way to Tahoe to cover the Jeff Lacy fight. Charles says he will check out his leads and sounds as surprised as anyone about the events that are transpiring. Alright, time to get in a late lunch. As always the phone rings just as I am getting ready to relax. Uh oh, it's Charles, hope everything is okay! Charles proceeds to tell me That Shelly Finkel is in Tahoe and he is announcing to everyone who will listen that the Klitschko fight is off. WHAT!!!!! A quick thank you to Sweet Chuck and a quicker phone call to Top Rank. "Um, hello. I just spoke with our reporter in Tahoe and he told me that Finkel is saying the fight is off!" "Boy that was fast", says the Top Rank Exec," that just became official minutes ago!"             AHHHHHHHHHHH!

Okay, deep breath, I am a computer Klutz, but I can post this now! Oh goody, no one has it up yet! Don't call anyone, just post it! After 3 unsuccessful attempts I get the bad news posted! Quick check again, Dang! The Gorilla (oops) I mean that other site has it. Oh well, it's gonna break like wildfire any minute anyways. Job well done, I better pat myself on the back, or kick myself in the butt, whichever comes first! Well this sucks for sure, I was really looking forward to this fight, as was the rest of the boxing community. Oh yeah, better call Bret and let him in on the news. After that I better call K2 and see if I can get something from them,. Shoot! Voice mail. " Hello Hello, I know the fight is off, I am sorry. Would there be anyone who would like to contact me in regard to the state of mind over there? Call me at 562-you know the rest! So quite a day, time to watch the fights! Well that was short, now what? Ring! Ring! Now who could that be? Hello? Whoa it's Tom Loeffler from K2! "Hey Tom, How Ya Doin buddy? Thanks for returning my call! Man, I know it's been a tough day, but would you mind answering a few questions about the bad news we got today? Oh man that's great Tom! Thanks!

Hopkins Looking To Set The Record Straight -
Over 50 Min Of Hopkins Non Stop AUDIO, AGAIN & FREE!!!!

Story and Photos By Will “The Thrill” Trillo

Former Undisputed Middleweight Champion Bernard Hopkins quietly arrived in Los Angeles Sunday with his final destination being Big Bear, California as he begins preparation for his much-anticipated rematch with new Champion, Jermain Taylor. Before Hopkins made his way to the mountaintop he stopped to have lunch with a few of So. Cals boxing media members. Boxing2005 was honored to be one of those in attendance.

The roundtable luncheon featured Hopkins at his never at a loss for words best. During the lunchtime session Bernard was animated and confident, just as you would expect him to be. At times Bernard would jump up out of his seat to demonstrate his matador and bull theory from his first fight. Other times he would have someone stand up and he would show how he would approach somebody on the street before he would rob him or her with the intentions of hurting his victim if they did not comply with Bernard’s commands. It’s no secret Bernard spent time behind bars for Strong Armed Robbery, and after his little demonstration, I for one am glad he took up a new line of work! Hopkins also revealed to us how he intends to campaign for this upcoming rematch, showing us the prop he intends to use. I dare not give away his secret, but trust me, it is vintage Bernard as it is not only a bit humorous, but just as truthful as can be.

Sometime before his first fight with Taylor, Bernard was given the moniker “B-Hop”, and for the most part, it kind of stuck. I also understand that in this day and age that we live in that his "Executioner" nickname has become a politically incorrect name to use. But with that said, and after hearing how Bernard plans to go about his business in his next fight, I think the name “B-Hop” just doesn’t fit this particular situation. Quite frankly, it’s just too nice! I think from here on in it would be safe to refer to Bernard as the "Exterminator". With it we still have the X to use for all our cheesy headlines, (see above), and not only that, it firmly describes everything Bernard is intending to accomplish on December 3rd. That would be the eXtermination of Jermain Taylor, Lou Dibella, the biased HBO broadcasters and by knocking out Taylor, Bernard plans on eXterminating the judges from handing down another questionable decision.

We also learned that this fight in December may not be Hopkins last appearance in the ring even though he plans on keeping his promise to his Mother by not fighting past the age of 40. There is all kinds of news breakers in this one!

But enough of me, tell ya what…go grab a sandwich and a cup of coffee, put your feet up and listen to the roundtable we had with Hopkins today, in it’s entirety. Nowhere else can you get this kind of inside look at one of the greatest fighters from this or any era.

As usual, it’s FREE! Now why would you go anywhere else?

Forrest Handles Garcia
Let's Put The Controversy Aside
Next Day Audio Interview With Vernon
Dramatic Moment 15 Photo Sequence By "Big" Joe, not 1 like another site

By Will "The Thrill" Trillo
Photos: "Big" Joe

Jr. Middleweight Elco Garcia (18-4,8 KO's) was a tough and game opponent for Vernon Forrest (37-2,27 KO'S) in The Pechanga Casino on Friday night, but make no mistake about it, Forrest was in command of this one from the get go, and although the crowd jumped on the game opponents bandwagon, no amount of cheering was going to change the judges scorecards. Going into the 10th round Vernon was ahead on two judges scores by tallies of 89-83 while one other judge saw it for Vernon 88-84. In other words, Vernon was darn near pitching a shutout on two cards and only a KO by Garcia would have snatched this victory away from Forrest, and that wasn't going to happen.

But what did take place in round ten was just what the crowd needed to bolster their already misguided cheers for Elco.

  Enrique Ornelas Comeback Trail Begins
By Will "The Thrill" Trillo
Photos: "Big" Joe

The last time we saw Enrique Ornelas in the ring he was in against Southpaw spoiler Sam Reese who filled his roll perfectly and spoiled Enrique's night by handing him a majority decision defeat. Since then Enrique has been flying under the radar trying to figure out the best way to get his career back on track. After a couple of heart felt but failed attempts, Enrique hooked up with Al Haymon and in a matter of a couple of weeks he found himself in the ring on a big Goosen promoted card in Pecahnga.

If there was any rust or cobwebs it was not evident as Enrique jumped on his foe Ayodeji Fadeyi (10-6-1,6 KO's) right away and never let him off the hook until the ref brought the bout to a halt at the 2:37 mark of round 2.

Truth be told Ornelas has been in the gym with his brother Librado Andrade and stablemate Julio Gonzalez keeping his skills honed and ready for this very day.

With the victory Enrique improves his record to 21-2 with 14 KO's and it looks as though we can expect to see him back in the ring in mid-November as he starts his quest to get himself back into title contention.

Parade Of Champions On Olvera St. - Audio & Video
Barrera vs. Peden & Mosley vs. Cruz..........Plus Jesus Chavez

Photos: Will "The Thrill" Trillo

This Saturday from The MGM in Las Vegas Nevada Golden Boy Promotions is putting on a stellar card that will feature bouts that are sure to be full of fire and intriguing from top to bottom. From the undercard which features the likes of Abner Mares and Kofi Jantuah, all the way up the top three bouts that all have Championship ramifications, this PPV card should be well worth the $44.95 price tag.

Today on Olvera St. in Los Angeles almost all the principals were in attendance and who could think of a better place to start the Mexican Independence Day weekend than the legendary Mexican landmark?

Just some quick thoughts on the days events...All the fighters look ready to go both physically and mentally, there should be no excuses for out of shape fighters this weekend! Guys in the peanut gallery wearing sailors hats should be a little more respectful when the promoter is translating what the Mexican challenger just said, no one was amused, irritated & embarrassed, but not at all amused, keep it to yourself! Last but not least, I am not one to believe in signs from above, or freaky coincidences, but was it just me that thought it was a little eerie when Oscar introduced Marco Antonio Barrera and all the lights and power in the building went out? Now don't go running out to drop all your money on Peden because of this little omen, but don't say I didn't warn you if it happens!

With that said how would you like me to stop rambling and let you see and hear what the fighters had to say for themselves? I knew you would and that's why we are bringing you these Audio and Video highlights. Not only do you get to hear and see what all the fighters had to say from the podium, but afterward I got in one on one interviews with the Parade of Champion stars. Do I need to mention it's all FREE? Nah, you already knew that!

The Executioner Talks With Boxing2005
After Filing His Appeal -
Audio Interview
"I am doing what is right to save the sport!"

Bernard Hopkins has filed an appeal to the Nevada Athletic Commission for a review and reconsideration of the decision of last Saturday night's middleweight championship bout against Jermain Taylor. Hopkins appeal is based on the rules governing the Nevada Athletic Commission and the scoring of the 12th round for Taylor by veteran judge Duane Ford. In addition Hopkins has sent a letter to the WBA requesting a review of the scoring and an immediate rematch pursuant to the rules of the organization. Hopkins is considering similar appeals to the WBC and IBF

Coming right on the heels of the Former Undisputed Middleweight Champ, Bernard Hopkins, filing an appeal with the Nevada Athletic Commission for them to review and reconsider the decision rendered during last Saturday nights loss to Jermain Taylor in addition to letters being sent to the WBA and maybe the WBC and the IBF, Boxing2005 was given the opportunity to speak with Bernard himself.

During our conversation Hopkins told us that by filing these appeals, he is doing what is right to save the sport! His focus is on the 12th round in which Judge Duane Ford scored the round for Jermain Taylor, that was a round that most observers feel Hopkins won easily. And although Bernard did not make any accusations or implications, he did say that observers looking at the scores could get the suspicion of impropriety.

Hopkins also remarked that the decision did not only take away from him, but it took away from the World as well.

During our conversation Bernard said that he understood that the media had a job to do, and he was fine with that, but then he asked the rhetorical question, "Why are we here?"
Obviously the answer Bernard is looking for is that something went wrong on Saturday night, and he wants to see to it that it be made right!

As always, we don't want to tell you what the newsmakers have to say, we want you to hear it for yourself, and that is why we are bringing you this FREE audio of the chat we had with Bernard on Wednesday!

Larios vs. Vazquez III Is A Must -
Audio Interview

At the post fight press conference on Saturday night, Oscar De La Hoya was asked about a matchup between his fighter, WBC Champ Oscar Larios and IBF Champ Israel Vazquez. The media was told that Golden Boy wanted to, and tried to make that fight, but the Vazquez people did not want the fight. Frank Espinosa, Israel Vazquez's manager heard what Oscar had to say and he wanted to clear the air in regard to the proposed unification matchup.
We at Boxing2005 were glad to speak with Mr. Espinosa and we are happy to let our readers,(and listeners), check out what he had to say!

Famoso and The Matador Speak! Audio Interviews
When Jesus Chavez and Carlos Hernandez went at it on the undercard of the Julio Ceasar Chavez "Adios" bout in Los Angeles it was all but etched in stone that the winner would get a crack at Marco Antonio Barrera and a shot at his title.

The fight between The Matador and Famoso was a classic war, just as many expected it would be, and in the end, Jesus Chavez came out on top in a disputed Split Decision. It was no dispute that it was a close fight and it could have gone either way, but one judge had Chavez ahead by a way too wide margin and therein lies the dispute. In defeat Hernandez was gracious and did not openly complain aloud about the unusual scoring, but at the same time he made it clear that he thought he won the fight.

For Chavez, there was no doubts in his mind either. Jesus was certain that it was he who clearly won the brawl and now it was time to collect on the fruits of his labor.

But that fruit soon spoiled as it was announced that Barrera was going to put his title on the line against Robbie Peden in September, and to add salt to the Chavez wound, rumors have been flowing that Chavez would face Hernandez on a huge card sometime in September as well.

Hopkins, "No one is going to be surprised when I beat Jermain Taylor!"

Taylor, "I am not the least bit intimidated by him!

By Will "The Thrill" Trillo

Undisputed Middleweight Champ Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins A.K.A.

B-Hop  (46-2-1, 32 KOs), will face Undefeated Middleweight heir apparent
Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor (23-0, 17 KO’s). The bout will be presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with DiBella Entertainment and televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT). Today, the combatants
held a National teleconference to discuss the highly anticipated bout.

As I sat waiting in the never ending cue that was waiting to ask a question of the Champion Hopkins I noticed that Bernard had a bit of an edge on already and although he was still as cordial as ever, he wasn’t putting up with too much from the press and was quick to correct or reprimand anyone who stepped out of line. That made it a little easier for me to swallow when his side of the conference call came to an end, and I missed an opportunity to speak to Bernard myself.

On the other hand Jermain was the same Taylor who we have come to know and he was polite and tolerant even though some of the questions from the attending media were pretty bad. Fortunately, I got through to Jermain on this one, and I was able to drop a couple of Q’s on him.

All in all, both fighters had some very interesting and bold statements during the teleconf, and we thought you might like to hear a bit of what they had to say!

Touted by many as the hottest fighter in the division, Peter, the United States Boxing Association/North American Boxing Federation (USBA/NABF) champion, will try to tame “The Bull” when he battles North American Boxing Association (NABA) Heavyweight Champion Taurus Sykes on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING. All three titles will be on the line in the 12-round bout, presented by Duva Boxing from the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada.

Sykes: I'm not Jeremy Williams. Jeremy Williams don't have a chin. He could get slapped and  knocked out! . . .I know you have a little fire going on, your name popping and all that, but I guarantee you after this fight, after I beat you, you are going to be exposed.

Peter: I am going to beat you before I knock you out.  I am going to punish you before I knock you out.

Sykes: And after I beat you, they are going to do what they did to all those other African heavyweights.

Peter: You will never see the light beating Samuel Peter.  You are a dreamer.

Mayweather Does Lunch With So. Cal Media!

Over
40 Minutes Of Mayweather Jr. Audio -
Photos & Report by Will "The Thrill" Trillo

On an overcast day in the upscale 90210 city, # 1 WBC ranked Super Lightweight Floyd Mayweather Jr. sat down for lunch with selected media members to discuss his upcoming HBO Pay-Per-View bout on June 25th with WBC Champ, Arturo "Thunder" Gatti.

In all honesty, I went into this luncheon with a bit of an attitude about the two-time champ, and it wasn't positive, to say the least! Like most people I had become irritated by Mayweathers brash attitude and seemingly over the top arrogance.

After sitting down and having lunch with the young man, I must say that I have formed a whole new opinion for Floyd Jr. I found Mayweather to be a very self confident fighter who not only says he is the best out there, but he truly believes it! He was not just talking a bunch of trash in order to sell tickets today, he was just answering the questions posed to him in the most honest and forthright way he could. Floyd knows he is good, perhaps one of the best, and he has no problem admitting to his place amongst the pound for pound best.

What a lot of us don't know is that Floyd is happiest when he is with his family, he loves his kids and he made it perfectly clear that they are the most important things in his life, not the belts, not the money, but family! You have to admire that even if you don't like Mayweather himself.

Once again it is Boxing2005's honor to bring you complete audio of the luncheon, this way you can draw your own conclusions on the fighter who will be putting it all on the line next month in Atlantic City.

Emergency! Quiet Cannon Calls 911!
90 Minute Delay Well Worth The Wait!

By Will "The Thrill" Trillo
It looked as though the show was not going to go on as Promoter Ed Holmes sweated it out while the Paramedics were late for their call. But after 1 & 1/2 hours the gurney was in place and the show did in fact, go on! And even though it didn't start on time, once it got started the 1000 in attendance were treated to a fine night of local fights.

The main event was a 3 round barn burner that saw Carlos Cisneros go down promptly in round one. But the tough young fighter got up and put his foe, George Moreno on the seat of his pants before the first 3 minutes could finish! The welters went on to put on an entreating scrap and the crowd was thrilled with the action. It was at the midpoint of round 3 that Cisneros started catching Moreno with a barrage of left hooks that left him a hapless warrior on the ropes and forced the ref to jump in and halt the beating at 1:17 of the 3rd.

This week the two got together via a teleconference to discuss the upcoming attraction, and as usual Boxing2005 was there to ask the questions you want answered!

This time we thought you might like to hear a bit of what they had to say before you read the entire transcript.

Castillo: I know there have been tough opponents that I faced, but fortunately, I have not really been hit that much.  I have not really gone through a real tough time in those fights.  I did well in those fights and I think I will have more than what I need for this fight come May 7.

Corrales: From the point that it was brought up to me, it was a fight I was gung-ho for. I had to have it and so I always kept my faith that something would work itself out and it did.
